AAAS and Subaru congratulate the 2005 SB&F Prize winners!

These winning authors and illustrator were honored at a ceremony on February 19th, 2005 at the AAAS Annual Meeting's Family Science Days event. View our special booklet honoring all the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize winners and nominees

Children's Science Book Authors:

Patricia Lauber, author of more than 125 books for young readers, two of her books, Seeds: Pop Stick Glide and Journey to the Planets, were nonfiction nominees for The American Book Awards and her book, Volcano: The Eruption and Healing of Mount St. Helens was a Newbery Honor Book.

Laurence Pringle, award-winning author of over 100 books about nature, science, health, and environmental issues, including Sharks! Strange and Wonderful, and Dog of Discovery: A Newfoundland's Adventures with Lewis and Clark.

Seymour Simon, author of 200 highly acclaimed science books, over half of which have been named Outstanding Science Trade Books for Children by the National Science Teacher's Association

Hands-on Science Book Author:

Bernie Zubrowski, author of 16 books and 12 curriculum guides, he is perhaps best known for designing hands-on learning activities that engage young people in scientific explorations with very simple materials.

Children's Science Book Illustrator:

Jim Arnosky, winner of the Washington Post/Children's Book Guild Award for his overall contribution to nonfiction for children, he is the author/illustrator of the award-winning book, Drawing From Nature.

Popular Science Book Author:

James Trefil, physicist and author James Trefil is known for his writing and his interest in teaching science to nonscientists. In 2000 American Institute of Physics chose him to receive the Andrew W. Gemant Award, presented for outstanding and sustained contributions in bridging the gap between science and society.
