Anyone who has seen the hardcover
edition of this book will welcome with eagerness this new high-quality
paperback edition. The publisher is to be commended for reproducing the
quality of the hardcover original, but putting it into a handy, portable
6"x 6" x 1.5" format. Over 5,000 color photographs and 1,000 full-color
illustrations with more than 30,000 clearly referenced terms make for a
fascinating sourcebook. Younger children will enjoy simply flipping through
its pages, exploring a visual feast and no doubt attempting to reproduce
many of the illustrations on their own. Older students and adults will
find the extensive and comprehensive index easy to use to locate the desired
object quickly and to check on proper nomenclature or study the interrelationship
of different parts to the whole object. Many of the photographs are so
vivid that they seem to emerge right out of the page into your lap. From
the inside of a golf ball to the surface of the sun, from the mechanics
of a jet engine to the interior of a piano, and from anatomy to zoology
and much in between, this book will delight every owner with hours of fun
and learning.—Dennis W. Cheek, Rhode Island Department of Education,
